About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Journal of the Entomological Society of BC is an open-access journal. Manuscripts dealing with all facets of the study of arthropods will be considered for publication. Submissions may be from regions beyond British Columbia and the surrounding jurisdictions provided that content is applicable or of interest to a regional audience. Review and forum articles are encouraged.
Peer Review Process
Submitted manuscripts will be delegated by the editor-in-chief to an editorial board member who will request the expertise of at least two anonymous reviewers. Following the advice in the assessments from the reviewers, a decision to accept or reject the manuscript will be made by the handling editor in conjunction with the editor-in-chief. In the event of a disagreement between reviewers, the article will be sent out for a third anonymous, independent review. The ultimate decision of the editors will be final.
Publication Frequency
The Journal of the Entomological Society of British Columbia is published once per year in December and articles are also published online as they are accepted and processed.
Submission and processing deadlines
We will begin to include accepted manuscripts that have completed copyediting and production in the new yearly issue in the autumn, and we will typically close the issue at the end of the year. This means that authors must return corrected galley proofs by 1 December to ensure time for final production and publication. We will do our best to process papers submitted by 15 September for the current year’s issue, assuming a successful review process. However, since the review process can be variable depending reviewer availability and on the outcome of reviews, the earlier in the year manuscripts are submitted, the more likely they will have the chance to go through review, copyediting, and production in time for publication in that volume.
Open Access Policy
The Journal of the Entomological Society of British Columbia provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
The Society has no support apart from subscriptions and uses Open Access publishing fees to support copyediting and layout editing work.
The publication fee for a standard scientific article is $500, and the fee for Scientific Notes and for Natural History & Observations pieces is $350. Unless invited by a member of the Editorial Board, Reviews and Forum pieces will also be charged $500 and $350, respectively. Publishing fees are due upon acceptance.
Payment must be made here. Please inform the Editor-in-Chief once payment is made so that it can be noted in the journal managment system.
Archiving
The Journal of the Entomological Society of British Columbia is archived via the PKP Preservation Network, LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, and the Biodiversity Heritage Library which is hosted by the Smithsonian institution.
