Effects of sprinkler irrigation on McDaniel and European red mites in apple orchards
Keywords:
McDaniel spider mite, Tetranychus mcdanieli, European red mite, Panonychus ulmiAbstract
Overtree sprinkler irrigation of apple trees was effective in keeping populations of McDaniel spider mites, Tetranychus mcdanieli, below the economic level. Sprinkling had less effect on European red mites, Panonychus ulmi, because the females moved to the undersides of the leaves and continued egglaying during the sprinkling and because the eggs, unlike those of T. mcdanieli, were not dislodged by the sprinkling. The effectiveness may be increased by timing the sprinkling to coincide with the first appearance of the immature stages and by increasing the size of the droplets.References
